THE full line-up of performers at this year's free Stockton Riverside Fringe Festival has been revealed.

The headline music acts will be the Happy Mondays, Super Furry Animals and Paul Heaton from the Beautiful South and the Housemartins.

While in the comedy tent Bob Mills and Jimmy Cricket will entertain alongside a new generation of stand-up talent.

The bands Dirty Weekend and The Chapman Family will take to the stage fresh from their appearances at this year's Glastonbury festival.

Also performing in Stockton between Wednesday, July 30 and Sunday, August 3 will be the Wildcats of Kilkenny, Billy the Kid, The Lurios and Elaine Palmer.

An acoustic stage will also feature at the event together with a jazz day and folk club at the Georgian Theatre.

The fringe is the "unofficial" part of Stockton International Riverside Festival, Europe's largest showcase of street theatre which last year attracted a combined audience of more than 40,000 people.

Paul Burns, Director of the Tees Music Alliance, which organises the Fringe, recommended that people arrived to see their favourite acts early as there is limited capacity.

He said: "We believe we have the best line-up for a completely free festival in the North mixing as it does, major acts with our own local artists."
